Comparative cytotoxic study of silica materials functionalised with essential oil components in HepG2 cells

چکیده
This work evaluated the cytotoxic effect of different EOCs-functionalised silica particle types. The in vitro toxicity eugenol and vanillin-immobilised SAS, MCM-41 microparticles nanoparticles was on HepG2 cells, compared to free EOCs pristine materials. results revealed that essential oil components bare had a mild cells. However, comparative study showed vanillin milder than equivalent concentrations immobilised particles, while differences cell viability between functionalised particles relied type analysed material. most materials were vanillin-functionalised micro with IC50 values 0.19 0.17 mg/mL, respectively, at 48 h exposure. Differences cytotoxicity may be attributed density functional their surface as result functionalisation reaction performance for physico-chemical properties demonstrated cationic nature increased hydrophobicity could responsible promoting cell-particle interactions enhancing behaviour.

Introduction: Medicinal plants are among the most important products in agriculture and medicine. The usefulness and cheapness, environmental friendliness, and limited side effects of medicinal plants have increased the rate of use of these plants in recent years. Plant extracts, such as cloves, have long been used in medicine, perfumery, and as additives in cooking. This study aimed to evaluat...

Cytotoxic activity of the phenolic extract of virgin coconut oil on human hepatocarcinoma cells (HepG2)
Phenolic compounds are secondary metabolites widely distributed in plants. This study aims to extract the phenolics in Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) and study its cytotoxic effect on human Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HepG2). Using Fast Blue BB, the crude phenolic extract of VCO yielded 25.54 ppm gallic acid equivalence per 0.5 mg/ml sample. The antioxidant capacity of the phenolic extract gave an IC50...
متن کاملAntifungal effect of essential oil components against Aspergillus niger when loaded into silica mesoporous supports.
BACKGROUND Essential oil components (EOCs) are known for their antifungal properties; however, their high volatility limits their application as antimicrobial agents. Strategies used for controlling the volatility of EOCs include encapsulation or loading into porous materials. This study evaluated the in vitro antifungal activity of selected EOCs (carvacrol, cinnamaldehyde, eugenol and thymol) ...
